Declan was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia, a rare blood disorder, at only 3 months old. Declan’s bone marrow does not make any red blood cells so he depends on a blood transfusion every 3 weeks to keep his hemoglobin above 9. Without these transfusions he would not survive.

Declan’s mom, Ann, states, “It’s hard to put in words just how thankful we are for blood donors and it makes me really emotional. But when I say our son would not be here without these selfless donations, I mean it. Because of donors, our son is able to live his life. We will be forever thankful. This may sound cheesy but when I was pregnant I knew I wanted an Irish boy’s name. And when I found out what Declan meant I knew it was the perfect name. Little did I know just how perfect. Declan means “full of goodness.” Every time he gets a transfusion I am reminded that he truly is full of goodness.”

My son’s name is Houston Holley and he is 17 years old. Houston has Sickle Cell and we discovered he had it since he was one month old. Since then Houston has been in and out of the hospital more times than we can count. Through this process, Houston dealt with so much such as missing a lot of school, losing hope, and wanting to give up on life because he has been through so much pain.

Houston couldn’t be like other children due to the fact Sickle Cell put a damper on his life by not being able to play outside with the other children and not being able to stay with family and friends because I was so scared he would get sick. When it came down to graduation he almost missed it because he was in the hospital the week of. He got out one day before graduation. Although he has had a hard life he is still blessed because he is still here standing strong fighting the good fight. I am #TEAM HOUSTON & #TEAM SICKLE CELL

Meet Tyran Jackson, a patient that has received blood from donors!

“I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Diffuse Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on August 2, 2018, at Willis Knighton North. Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that doctors found in my bone marrow. Shortly after, I was transferred to Oschner LSU Health Shreveport to start my chemotherapy treatment. I underwent eight rounds of intravenous chemotherapy, six rounds of intrathecal chemotherapy, and three bone marrow biopsies.

From the beginning of my journey in June 2018, when I first started to show symptoms, to my last treatment on April 23, 2019, I required over 100 blood and platelet transfusions. My doctors closely monitored my red and white blood cell counts to track my progress. The chemotherapy often caused me to become neutropenic, which means I had a lower-than-normal amount of white blood cells. On several occasions, my white blood cell count was undetectable, meaning it was so low that it was unmeasurable. The blood and platelet transfusions I received helped to stabilize my counts and allowed me to continue treatment.

I am incredibly grateful to the Lifeshare blood center and its donors for their tremendous support during my cancer treatment. Their blood and platelet donations helped me to beat cancer and enter remission four years ago.”

Because of donors, Tyran was able to beat cancer and enter remission. LifeShare is so thankful for not only our donors but the patients in need that receive transfusions. #powerofyou #giveblood #sharelife
