Banking on Tomorrow

LifeShare-Shreveport has an educational program available about blood, blood components, and blood donation to the students of Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Red River, DeSoto, Sabine, Bienville and Claiborne Parishes. The local program titled “Banking on Tomorrow” involves placing an educational DVD in schools in all parishes as well as having LifeShare representatives offer personal presentations to school classes and assemblies. America’s Blood Centers developed an animated program for Elementary students and an age-appropriate program for Middle/High School students with both being titled “My Blood, Your Blood”. Each includes scientific facts about blood cells and ties that knowledge with the need for blood donations from specific patients. Included with the DVD is access to an interactive Web site for educators that has a teacher’s guide, color posters, glossary and additional support materials that follow National Science Education Standards.
