The Shreveport Times reports that local blood supply is critically low

The Shreveport area needs an additional 500 donations between today and tomorrow to stabilize the blood supply. The center at 8910 Linwood Ave. in Shreveport will stay open until 7 p.m. tonight and will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday to accomodate more donors.

LifeShare Blood Centers conducted a blood drive at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope, AR on Thursday. A total of 16 units was donated. It couldn't have come at a better time because LifeShare Blood Centers reports the local blood supply is critically low on type O negative blood.

The center has one of the world's largest collections of rare reference blood cells. The money will be used to purchase new containters, which will better preserve the collection.
