Dr. James R. Robinson - Recipient

Never losing consciousness during a horrific automobile accident is something most people cannot fathom. Dr. James R. Robinson, Ear,Nose,Throat/Head & Neck Surgeon, is alive today to tell his story. Dr. Robinson, his wife, daughter and son-in-law were headed south on I-49 when the accident occurred June 8, 2002. He never lost consciousness during the entire crash - involving many flips of the vehicle. When the automobile came to rest, the doctor was short of breath and struggled to survive. He was air-lifted to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, where he was unconscious for 10 days due to loss of blood volume. Dr. Robinson was transfused with 14 units of packed red cells, 7 units of plasma and 2 units of platelets. Collapsed lungs, rib fractures, fractured left elbow and clavicle, multiple contusions and a severe laceration in his left leg were among the injuries he sustained. His daughter and son-in-law were not severely injured. Unfortunately, Mrs. Robinson perished in the accident leaving James to fight for his life.

Amazingly, this fighter lived. After 4 months of recuperation, Dr. James Robinson went back to work part-time with his practice at Highland Clinic in Shreveport. After 18 months, and nearly losing his left arm, he was back performing surgery. Physicians connected with his ordeal are simply astonished that this incredible man survived. It is amazing what the needed-mix of competent physicians, the ”will to live”, and blood components can do when one is so close to death.

Today, Dr. Robinson has recovered, re-married and enjoys time spent with family. This man has healed others for over 30 years, but this time, it was his turn to be healed. What a miracle!
