Jimmy Rawson

Jimmy Rawson had been a faithful biweekly platelet donor at the blood center in Lake Charles for the last two years. He was working on receiving his 5-gallon mug until one day...

"Apheresis staff noticed that my iron level was dropping and that I seemed to be losing weight. I could not believe it, but the LifeShare staff encouraged me to seek further evaluation from my doctor.

On October 15, 2001, my doctor scheduled me for a colonoscopy. During the procedure he discovered that I had a tumor. The hospital then scheduled me for surgery but realized that they only had one unit of blood I could use due to the rare antigens in my blood. My surgery was postponed until additional units could be located. LifeShare was able to locate those additional units.

Today, I am doing fine and am undergoing chemotherapy for the next six months. I believe deeply in the power of prayer and that LifeShare and its staff are truly my angels for saving my life. I know that without the caring nature of the LifeShare staff and their insisting that I see a doctor, I would not be here today!."

Upon being released from the hospital, Mr. Rawson had his wife bring him by the center so that he could personally thank the staff and let them know that he was doing well. It pleases us to know that we were there in his time of need.
