| Six years ago, doctors told Bud Noles he would only live another 30 days without a life-saving liver transplant. At that same time, the family of a 19-year-old Baton Rouge man was grieving the teen's death, and deciding to donate his organs to someone in need.
That month, Bud would receive two gifts--a new liver and life-saving blood. "It was 1996. My granddaughter was chosen to carry the Olympic torch through Alexandria. It made front-page news. My family planned it so that would be the first thing I saw when I woke up from my transplant," Noles said. "I owe my life to that young man and also to the blood donors." Noles and his wife recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. "It wouldn't have happened without them," he said.
Bud and his wife live in Shreveport. They have two children and four grandchildren. Bud is a member of the local 5951 post of the VFW. |
